view point: The General Opinion is . . .
submitted byYTCCTRAP@AOL.com & YTCCBYTE@AOL.com

Last week, our opinion section was devoted to the recent event of Microsoft giving $150 million to the failing company, Apple Computer. Microsoft said that this is a sign of their "commitment" to the company. As a result, Apple will in turn make Microsoft's Internet Explorer, the default browser. Here are some of the things you had to say.

From: KVanpat790

I think it will be great for the MAC O/S in the long run. The MAC O/S is a great operating system, but it can't use all of the great Microsoft Programs (for example, Office, Publisher, IE, Encarta, etc.). So instead of having a great operating system and being limited to software use, Windows (Microsoft) programs will work easier. Plus now Apple is saved, we won't have to worry about it going out of business. Who knows, maybe (some day) the MAC and Windows operating system will converge, Creating a "better" opperating system!

From: Caddiliel

This is definitely not a pitieous move by Microsoft. Gates is trying to get a virtual monopoly on the computing industry. I think Apple will profit from this, through maybe stage a comeback. I'm a big blue compatible user but any loss in competition results in higher prices and lower quality. I'm not against the move, but it's not one that Bill Gates has the customer in mind for

From: LaSangue

Bill Gates is not a stupid man. By keeping Apple from going bankrupt, Gates is attempting to avoid an anti-trust lawsuit (not that any lawsuit would make a dent in his account balance.) Inside of ten years, Both Sun Microsystems and Netscape will be bankrupt and Steve Jobs will have a job only because Gates will be bankrolling Apple. How long until MS has the same agreement with Apple that it has with IBM? To save time, just open your wallets and give Gates 1/4 of your money right now. Bill Gates=Rock; Steve Jobs=Hard Place.

No one knows for sure, but the general opinion was that Microsoft only has their interests in gaining another chunk of the market, not in saving Apple Computer. Some people such as Caddiliel and LaSangue are worried about what this means to the customer. The possibility of Microsoft getting most of the market and giving the customers a lower end product might not be that far off.

Only the future will tell . . .

Survey Says: . . . And the results are?
submitted byYTCCBRAIN@AOL.com

Last week, we asked all of the readers to take a poll on whether
or not they liked the Microsoft/Apple deal. We had responses
from many people! Here are the results:

It was a close call, but 55% of the readers who voted thought the
Microsoft/Apple deal was good and 45% didn't. As you can see,
it was a close call.

And the YT Newsletter poll results for the Microsoft/Apple deal were:

55% of the voters, voted for B. "This will strengthen the
computer industry for all!"

18% voted for C. "Microsoft is already in enough markets,
they should leave Apple alone."

14% of the people voted for D. "Other Opinion."

13% of the reader's voted for A. "Apple could survive
this bump in the road and shouldn't have signed on with
Microsoft."

Thanks once again for voting! We really appreciate it!
