viewpoint: The General Opinion is . . .

A week ago, we asked for your opinions about the CDA (Communications Decency Act) ruling by The Supreme Count and how you felt it impacted the Internet Community. The Surpreme Court had ruled that portions of it were unconstitutional and do not follow the First Amendment of the Constitution.

Below are a few comments of the various feedback received regarding our opinion poll.

ChasTuna2 wrote in and said: "I believe that just like TV, there should be a ratings system for content on the Web, and that browsers could easily be equipped with a patch similar to TV's V-chip. This patch would either block certain ratings from being viewed on certain screen names, or just block specific sites from being viewed.

Autumn Z wrote: "I don't think it is a good idea. I think kids and teens, everyone is smart enough to choose what they view. If people are so concerned than they should put rules on themselves."

Anonymous submitted to us: "Excuse me? Since when do we need someone else to decide what we can or can't see? Wasn't that the whole point of the move to America? If our government is going to throw away the Constitution with laws like the CDA, then maybe it would be better if we didn't have a government."Do what thou wilt shall become the whole of the law."

IHJK 1 expressed: "I think the government should control online content, because there's NO WAY they can know if some little kid is pretending he is 18. If an adult wants that stuff, he/she can get it another way. Why should we help make the world more immoral than it already is."

In closing, many felt that the ruling handed down by the Supreme Court was appropriate. On the other hand, many felt that there should be some kind of measures taken; However, the severity of the CDA was too restricting into government rule.

With the appropriate measures taken on behalf of ourselves, software developers, information services -- There seems to be be an overall feeling from the responses received that there can be a "happy medium" achieved with a little effort from all.

We'd like to take a moment and thank everyone for expressing and participating in our poll. Stay tuned to future YT Newsletters for other possible opinion polls.

Several weeks ago, the Supreme Court vetoed the request of a bill called the CDA (Community Decency Act) because it violated the 1st of Amendment: Free Speech. If this bill was passed, then it would have made it illegal to post/look at "indecent" material.

A week ago we asked you to participate a poll about this bill and what you thought. Below are the results of the poll:

27% said that the CDA bill should have been passed.
53% thought that the Supreme Court was right about not passing the bill
18% felt that the some kind of bill should have been passed, not necessarily that harsh
2% were undecicded

Based on the results, most of the respondants felt that the Supreme Court was right!
