In this weeks newsletter, the YT News Team encourages you to speak out regarding this issue. Take a few moments to offer your own thoughts and take our opinion poll.

viewpoint: Speak Your Peace!

Just recently, the Supreme Court ruled that the internet-related portions of the Communications Decency Act, or CDA, were unconstitutional and doesn't follow the First Amendment of the Constitution. The CDA makes it illegal for people to put certain, inappropriate content on the net for others to view or use the internet for indecent purposes. Many people, including those who have worked against the CDA for months, are happy with this decision. But there are also those who oppose this ruling.

Youth Tech would like to know how you feel about this. Should the government control online content? Or should we rely on technology to do that?

make your vote count! : Do We Need This?

As many of you know.... there has been a lot of talk on the Internet about one thing: the CDA. The CDA, or Communications Decency Act, was a suggested law that said that any "indecent" material sent or displayed over the Internet would be considered a felony. This bill didn't get very far when the Supreme Court slapped it in the face saying that it was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court said that it violated the 1st ammendment, freedom of speech.

Anyways, the Supreme Court voted 7-2 that if you knew that you were sending any of this material to a person under the age of 18 that it would be considered a crime. If this bill was passed, then it suggested that anyone who violated it could get two years in the slammer and a $250,000 fine!

We want to know what you think about the CDA!
