yt feature: Is the Internet Safe?
submitted by YTCCBRAIN@AOL.com
====================================================
The Internet has now turned into a huge information space. You can talk with other people who are in your neighborhood or across the globe! People even buy things and do their banking over the Internet! But are you really safe with all this information going everywhere in milliseconds?
Personally, I don't like to do any type of transaction over the Internet unless it is in SSL (Secured Socket Layer). SSL is a type of encryption that scrambles information and makes it almost impossible to figure it out. Think of SSL as hieroglyphics: you have to decipher the hieroglyphics before you can get the information!
Hackers are everywhere so you have to be very careful. But technology is getting better and people are making more and more transactions over the internet. You also have to use common sense. Remember to do the following things:
1. Never give your name or address to someone you don't know
2. Never give your password and credit card information to anyone you don't know
3. Try to make transactions over SSL sites.
4. Have fun and be safe! :-)

a day in the life: Meet YTCC Ice!
submitted by YTCCBYTE@AOL.com
==================================================
YTCCByte:What was your first computer and what influence did it have on you?
YTCC Ice:My first computer I still actually have. It was just a plain old DOS based computer, we recently had it upgraded to Windows 3.1. It taught me the basics about computers on both DOS and Windows. I'd say most of my computer knowledge started with that computer :)
YTCCByte:What would have to be your dream computer and why? Also, if you were deserted on an island, what kind of computer would you want?:)
YTCC Ice:Right now, my dream computer would have to be an Apple Powerbook 3400 fully loaded. I love the ability to move around and compute that's why I would choose a laptop. And the PB 3400 is considered the fastest of them all. If deserted, I'd bring the PB 3400 so I can travel all over the island and still compute. :)
YTCCByte:Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your computer knowledge?
YTCC Ice:I've been using computers since I was in elementary school which was between 5-7 years ago. Whenever a teacher had a computer problem they called on me to help fix it. My dad was PTA president so they trusted me to do that.
YTCCByte:If you could do anything in the future what would you do?
YTCC Ice:Well my non-tech related dream is to be on the US Olympic Swim Team. And my Tech dream is to become a Computer Programmer or Engineer. :)
YTCCByte:If you could be president of any company which company would you choose and why?
YTCC Ice:I'd be president of AOL. Since Mr. Case and I share the same first name I figure he wouldn't mind sharing America Online with me either ;)
YTCCByte:When did you join YT and what made you want to become a YTCC?
YTCC Ice:February -- I was always trying to help out the YTCCs when I was in Youth Tech Chat. And one day someone mentioned to me that I should become a YTCC, so I took them up on that offer.
YTCCByte:What hobbies do you participate in when you have free time? ;)
YTCC Ice:When I have free time I usually write poetry, go swimming, play basketball, watch movies or listen to classical music :)
YTCCByte:Where do you see AOL and the Internet in the future?
YTCC Ice:I think the Internet is going to become the center of everything in the future and that AOL is going to be a forerunner in making that happen.
YTCCByte:Have any thing to add? ( shout-outs, etc. ;)... )
YTCC Ice:I am from Planet Externia and YTCC Alien is from Planet Zorkak. Our planets meet every century for a battle. And I just want to say that the Externialians are going to win this century :)
YTCCByte:Alrighty! LOL! =)

-- You wake up at 3 am to use the restroom and stop to check your E-Mail on the way back to bed.
-- You turn off your modem and get this awful empty feeling.
-- You laugh at people with 2400 baud modems.
-- You start using smileys in the snail mail.
-- Your hard drive crashes. You haven't logged in for two hours. You start to twitch.
-- All of your close friends have an @ in their names.
-- You can't call your friends......they don't have a modem.
-- You check your mail. It says "no new messages" so you check it again.
-- Your phone bill comes to your doorstep in a box..
-- You tell the bus driver you live at http//1000.garden/house/brick.html
-- You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :-)
