YT FEATURE: Web Page Editors -- Which is Right For You?
-- submitted by ytcc byte

Creating a web page can be exciting and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there are so many HTML editors out there, both shareware and software to buy, that it can be confusing which editor may be best for you.

This week, we've briefly covered a few of the more popular HTML editors. Hopefully, this will help you build fun, creative and exciting web pages.

AOLPress 2.0: AOLPress 2.0 is a WYSIWYG web authoring tool. AOLPress makes building pages, tables, forms, frames and clickable images easy using HTML v3.2 standard. Using drag and drop technology, it's easy to publish pages within minutes using AOLPress 2.0 and checking them via. the built-in browser, plus much more! Java script and ActiveX supported (Available on Mac & Windows)

Microsoft FrontPage '97: (Available at software stores) FrontPage 97 is another WYSIWYG web authoring tool. FrontPage 97 uses the latest in HTML, allowing simple drag and drop, and easy integration to MS Office 97 for adding hyperlinks, text and information. Web Bots(TM) and Wizards(TM) make creating web pages even easier than before, plus many more features! Java script and ActiveX also supported. (Windows Only)

HotDog: Creating and maintaining web pages with HotDog is easy and effortless. Though there are many limitations with HotDog--it's an excellent program to begin designing web pages with to create simple pages using HTML tags and attributes. (Windows Only)

RAW HTML: I use RAW HTML, as they call it. I open a text editor and my handy book (I sometimes use HTML for Dummies) to write web pages. Using RAW HTML gives you, in my opinion, more power to do what you want do. Some editors are limited, RAW HTML lets you do just about anything you could think of!

BYTE'S PICK: My preference amongst web editor's is AOLPress. This program gets a thumbs up. Of course, I still like writing my own HTML documents in a text editor at times. My recommendation is first to learn HTML using a book. This will give you a better understanding of how web pages are built and how to be creative with yours.

Most of us have completed school for the year, or are about to do so. Summer is here, and that means it's time to have a blast! In a little over a week, Youth Tech will be launching it's complete Summer 97' area. It's sure to be fun summer -- we've got many things planned, including contests, daily games, summer chats and classes, downloads, and more.

While you're waiting for the exciting summer features, we encourage you to check out one of our summer features that is already up & running -- Camp Pals. Similar to Techie Pals, Camp Pals is our special summer pen-pal service. We also encourage you to sign-up for Computing Camp (which YT is part of). Computing Camp will feature activities throughout the summer, and will also be available sometime next week.

Have a great summer, and take advantage of the awesome activities we have in store for you!

GEEK HUMOR: From the Tech Support Funnies
-- submitted by spyder2100

Tech Support hotlines are not easy work, you get calls from all sorts of idiotic users that apparently can't read a manual, or lack common sense.

Here is a transcript of just one such case:

Caller: Hello is this Dell Tech support?

Tech: Yes, how can I help you?

Caller: The cup holder on front of my computer broke off and it is still under warrenty, how do I go about getting it fixed?

Tech: Excuse me for being shocked, but I am, you've stumped me. How did you get this cup holder, was it part of some promotion?

Caller: It came with the computer, I don't know of any promotion.

Tech: Does it have any markings on it, any names, any symbols?

Caller: All it says is 4X!

At which point the Tech put the caller on mute, couldn't resist laughing so hard. The user had apparently used the CD-ROM tray as a Cup Holder and snapped it off in the process!
