The Help and Support system in Windows XP is greatly improved over
anything in the past. A searchable system of compiled HTML files (ever
wonder what the .chm extension means?) provides the bulk of the help
system, but should your question go beyond the basic help system to a
specific problem, built-in searching of the Microsoft Knowledge Base is
available too (internet connection required to search the MSKB).
Should you have a problem with your system, and you would like your
computer knowledgeable friend to help you with it, you can invite them
to help you using Remote Assistance. With your permission, this will
allow them to connect to your computer from their own. Then, they can
see your screen and guide you on what to do, or if you want, they can
even do it for you.
Did you accidentally install a program that corrupted something, and
now Windows isn't working right? A System Restore utility will help you
undo the changes that program made, and get your system back up and
running.
The Did You Know section is updated occasionally with new tips
and tricks that might help you on your trek through this new version of
Windows.
Beyond the Help and Support Center itself, Windows XP has a much better
set of troubleshooting wizards than past versions of Windows have had.
These wizards will help you diagnose a simple problem you might be having,
such as not being able to print, or a problem with a new piece of
hardware.
