The Taskbar really just has a new look to it. There is little in
the way of new features in this area, with the exception of a Lock Taskbar
feature, which prevents the various bars from being moved, and also prevents the
whole bar from being moved to one of the sides or the top of the screen. The
only other change I've noticed is that the clock also shows the date when you
make the taskbar more than one line tall.
As you can see here, the Start Menu has had a major overhaul
done to it. In WinXP Home Edition, or WinXP Pro in a Workgroup, the blue area at
the top will show the chosen picture for the user, and also that user's name.
The Internet and Email links will link to whatever
applications are the default web browser and email programs. So if you
have Netscape set up to handle web browsing and Eudora set up for email,
then those would be in those two spots. If you don't want these icons to
be there, they can be turned off.
Below those icons are the 5 most recently used programs.
The amount of programs shown there can be adjusted to be any number you
want, and is set to 5 by default.
On the right side, you can customize what appears there
and how the items there react - whether they expand like a menu or if
they just link to the intended destination.
