Ever heard of companies using many computers to do research on something? Doing so gives them more processing power and allows them to get the job done faster, and it's known as distributed processing. The UD Agent from United Devices, a non-profit site, is the same idea. Except instead of one company having many PCs, the Agent can be run on any computer in the world! This creates the world's largest "super computer" through the network of all of these PCs retrieving their various task and sending back the results. The idea is that every person's computer has idle time, the time when you are not at the computer and it is simply sitting, and also the fact that many people typically don't use even 75% of their computer's processing power. The UD Agent contacts the United Devices server and request a task for it to perform. The server will return the task and the program will go to work. Once it has completed processing the data it will send the results back to the United Devices server where it is inputed into a database and the process repeats again. This is all done in the background, and you'd hardly even notice it's running. The great thing about this whole idea is that the research being done is for cancer and other various medical problems. It's a great way to get involved and help in the fight against cancer and other diseases.  United Devices is also VERY open about how your computer is used, what info is collected, and how the info collected is used. They DO NOT use your computer in any way to gain access to the things on it, or to do any illegal activites with it. It is NOT "spyware" and is secure. I'd strongly suggest you download the UD Agent program and set it up to run on your computer, then recommend it to a friend! It's a great way to help out in the fight against disease.
