If
you've got two physical hard drives in your system, you can
boost Windows performance by moving your Windows swap
file to your second drive; this way both drives can run at
the
same time for increased performance. The tip works best
when the two drives aren't sharing the same IRQ.
Start by moving all files off drive D; so the swap file will
be
placed at the beginning of the disk, which minimizes seek
time. Run ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter on drive D:
using full optimization, even if Defrag says you don't need
to. Next, open System Properties, and select performance,
then Virtual Memory. Choose "Let me specify my own
virtual
memory settings" Set the minimum and maximum virtual
memory sizes for drive D: to 2.5 times your installed RAM;
for example, set them to 40MB if you have 16MB of RAM or
to 80MB if you have 32MB or RAM.
