Question:

We have recently installed Windows 95 and have a dot matrix printer, Panasonic KX 2023. The problem we have is with the windows based programs. We cannot get the programs to print. When we send a document to the printer all that prints out is pages of ASCII characters. We have checked the print drivers, connections, etc. and have not found a solution.
Could you help us with this problem?

Answer:

This sounds very much like a driver problem, because its obvious your computer is connected to your printer, because it prints something, but its just not sending the right things.
The way to check this is to try re-installing the drivers for Windows 95 through the Control Panel. Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Add new Hardware. If you have a disk for your printer that has the Windows 95 drivers on it try using that one, if not search through the drivers list Windows has. If you still cannot find it try going to Panasonics Web Site and looking for the drivers there. Once you have them re-install them and try again.
If this does not work, try going to a DOS session in Windows and try printing a Text file from there. If that doesn't work then try restarting your computer in DOS mode and try printing there. If that still
doesn't work then you know that your printer drivers are not correct at all.
If all else fails you should find the support number for Panasonic in your printer documentation and speak to them.
