Question:

When I tried to install the multimedia portion of an audio CD, the computer said that my wav was misrepresenting its volume and the multimedia part of the CD might not work right. I checked the wav volume and it was fine. The only problems I could find were under the Advanced tab for Multimedia in the Control Panel. The first driver under Audio Devices (called "Audio for") says that it is enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem. The other 2 audio drivers (for voice modem and ENSONIQ Plug & Play) are fine. The first two drivers under MIDI Devices and Instruments (both called "MIDI for") have the same inactive message, and other two MIDI devices, for Soundscape, are fine. Everything came already installed in the computer and I haven't added or changed any sound devices or hardware and I've had no problems with multimedia CDs or sounds before. But now I can't play a good number of my wav files or any MIDI files. The welcome and goodbye sounds (all wav files that I've replaced the default sound with) for Windows and AOL, the got mail sound, and other windows sounds work fine, but the AOL Buddy-in, Buddy-out and IM sounds don't anymore. When I downloaded a wav, I couldn't play it because it said that another device was using my sound recorder, which wasn't so. If certain drivers need to be reinstalled, please be as detailed as possible because I've never done that before and I am quite new to computers. Thanks for any help that you can give.
Answer:

This is a very complicated problem, and may be suitable for your computer technical support agent (You have a Gateway2000, correct?). You may want to try calling the technical hotline of your computer
        manufacturer.

Otherwise, I would just try to reinstall all of your sound drivers and files. They should all be on a disk somewhere, and there should be some troubleshooting sections in the manual.

If you do have a Gateway or anything else, try their technical support line, they help a lot!
