Question:

I have a problem that has something to do with software that I downloaded. After I downloaded the file I tried to run it and as soon as I did it said "FILE NOT FOUND". Then when I deleted and I restarted my computer as soon as I got to my desktop it said "FILE NOT FOUND". I know it has to be related to that piece of software because it's never happened before! I have tried looking for the file name in my SYSTEM.INI and my WIN.SYS
boot up files to see if maybe it could be automatically trying to boot but I can't find it! What should I do?!? Thanks for your help!

Answer:

Under Windows 95, there are a few other places that it could be looking for that program/file. Click on the Start button, point to Programs, then Startup. If there are icons there, it could be one of those that is trying to start. Also, in the Win95 registry, there are a series of keys that contain startup programs. They are located in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion
and are the Run, RunOnce, RunServices, and RunServicesOnce. Please be careful editing your registry as data loss could occur if you delete something you shouldn't.
