Question:

I have deleted some programs to get more space on my hard drive to have
enough MB to run Photo Deluxe. But my hard drive doesn't show the added space. I also deleted my system.ini file by mistake. I do not have enough HD space to reinstall Win95,only 18MB. What do I do?

Answer:

First, the SYSTEM.INI file is really only used for Win 3.1 programs that need to read from or write to it. If you notice that some of your programs aren't working, then you need to reinstall those programs. That would be the way around reinstalling Win95. Also, as you make changes in your control panels, they should re-add their sections to that file.

As far as disk space, you need to empty your recycle bin before the space will be recovered. Moving files to the Recycle bin simply moves them into a hidden directory on your computer. Also, if you have a second window open to watch disk space, you sometimes need to refresh that window before the number will be correct. To refresh ANY Explorer window in Win95, hit the F5 key on your keyboard.
