Question:

I deleted a file from my recycle bin, yet the file name still appears under my "DOCUMENTS" folder in Windows 95. How do I delete this file from documents now?

Answer:

First, it's a common misconception that the file is still on your hard disk. The Documents menu is made up of shortcuts to recently used files that you opened in programs. So if you delete the file, and you still see it on your Documents menu, the file isn't actually there.

That said, to clear your Documents menu, follow these steps. Right-click on a blank spot on your Taskbar. Make sure it's not the Start button or the clock. From the menu that appears, choose Properties. The window that appears has two tabs on it. Click on the one labeled Start Menu Programs. On that tab, there should be a button to Clear the Documents menu. Click that button. Voila! The documents are gone!
