Question:
When I boot up the "c" prompt appears in the task bar. It didn't used to though. This means that a program is running at start up. How do I get rid of it??? I checked the start up folder and there is nothing in it but "In Control Desktop"
Answer:
There are two places, other than the startup group, that can run programs when Windows starts up. The first is WIN.INI, which is located in the C:\Windows directory. The other is a key buried in the registry. Click the START button and type REGEDIT, then click the OK button. Follow this path to find the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
In the area to the right are all the programs that run on Startup (if any). The MS Dos Prompt would be caused by COMMAND.COM, which is what you should look for when looking in the Registry and
WIN.INI.
