Question:
I went to install a CD ROM into a IBM 486. The ribbon connectors from the hard drive are different and will not hook up to the CD ROM. Can I buy an adapter?
Answer:
Yes, you should be able to get an adaptor for this. The only thing is that the cable should fit into the CD-ROM ! The problem could be that the cable only goes in one way round, usually with the red band to the power connector, if this is what's wrong then there ya go.
If not, then you will have to go see your local computer store and ask them. But beware, it could be that you have a SCSI Hard drive and therefore only a SCSI CD-ROM will connect to it. If this is the case then you will probably have to buy an IDE controller to use the CD-ROM.
