Question:
A perfectly functioning Win 3.11 system with no problems displays "Application needs new version of Windows" message when trying to start Netscape 3.0 and WinZip 6.3. No virus found by Norton Anti Virus 3.0. Reviewed all ini files, couldn't find a problem. In desperation, deleted WinZip, Netscape and Win 32s. (Couldn't use Netscape uninstall which just said "need newer Windows. . ." Downloaded and installed Internet Explorer - Still get need newer Windows message.
Re-downloaded Win32s, though shouldn't need it. No help. Downloaded WinZip 5.0b. It works, but it's an old version. Nothing newer works. I've checked all the settings, ini's, etc., but can't find a problem. The system is a 586 133 upgraded for multimedia running Win 3.11 in enhanced mode. One day Netscape started up fine, the next "Application needed newer version of Windows" appears.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Answer:
Looks like you need Windows 95, I suggest upgrading. NONE of the programs I make work on Win 3.1, or win 3.11 :(
