Now that all files necessary to share files have been
installed, we can begin to share files.
1. Open
"My Computer" from your desktop and Navigate to a folder or drive
you want to share with other computers on your network.
2. Right
click on the desired folder or drive. You'll notice there is now a
Sharing option on the menu. Click on it.
3. Now
that you've clicked on the sharing option in the right-click menu,
a panel similar to that on the left should pop up. You have
several options from this point. Obviously, you'll want to select
the Shared As button to share this folder. For a Share name,
select whatever name you wish and add a brief comment for that
folder. Now, you'll need to select an Access Type. Read only will
allow the computer accessing your files to only view/ play the
files. Full will allow the other computer user to rename, delete,
edit and view/play your files. Depends on password will determine
which rights the other user has depending on the password they
enter.
4. Once
done, click Apply then OK to complete the sharing of the folder. A
shared folder will now have a shared icon below it.
5. For
other users to access your shared folder, they will need to go to
Network Neighborhood located on the desktop. Once opened, they
will see all users in your workgroup. After selecting the user's
computer they wish to access, they will then see all the shared
folders.
6. Once
the other user opens a folder, a prompt will appear asking for a
password to that folder. After entering the password, that user
will have access to the folder's content.
