What happened during these years?

On August 14, 1976, the USSR launched the Luna 24 vessel 
to the moon, bringing back lunar samples.

Apple II Released - 1977
The apple II featured a color screen, a built in version of the BASIC computer language,
and cost approx. $1,300.00


The color monitor was introduced by Apple on their "Apple II"
computer - 1977

First Diesel Car - 1977
The first diesel automobiles in the U.S. were unveiled by General Motors. The
Oldsmobile 88 and 98 models were the first cars to feature the new engine. The
device was first conceived in 1893 by German Inventor Rudolph Diesel.

First Test Tube Baby Born - 1978

MS-DOS was released by Microsoft - 1981

Personal Computer - 1981
IBM announced it's first personal computer which was powered by a 4.77MHz Intel
8088 microprocessor- the only 16-bit chip with an 8-bit bus available at the time. The
system came with 64kb of RAM, a floppy drive, monochrome graphics, and the Microsoft
PC DOS 1.0 operating system at a cost of $3000.00


The first Space Shuttle, the Columbia, was launched by
the US - 1981

Apple introduces the Graphical User Interface (displaying 
graphics, not just text) to the personal computer. - 1983

Compact Discs go on the market - 1983

First Computer Virus Created- 1983
Len Adleman designed the virus to prove to security experts that such a thing was
possible.  The virus was implanted into a Unix VAX 11/750 system. This virus never
escaped into the wild however.

Apple Computer, Inc. releases the new Macintosh series. - 1984

Dr. Steen M. Willadsen of Denmark clones the first sheep
from a developing embryo. - 1984

DNA Fingerprinting was invented - 1985

INTEL 386 - 1985
The intel 386 operated at a speed of 16MHz and could access 4GB of physical memory.
It was the first 32-bit microprocessor.


The Windows operating system was introduced by Microsoft,
enabling PCs to multitask, or switch from application to
application - 1985

The Founding of Apple Computers - 1976

Apple Computer, Inc. was begun by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, in 
Wozniak's garage. This company is the manufacturer of many models
of personal computers, including the Apple II, Lisa, Macintosh series, 
Powerbooks, Power Macintosh, G3s, and the recent iMac. 

Apple's main mission is "to bring the best personal computing products
and support to students, educators, designers, scientists, engineers,
business persons and consumers in over 140 countries around the 
world." With their speed, user-friendly interfaces, and versatility, Apple
is a leading company in technological advancements.

Apple's many innovations include Built-in networking, called LocalTalk; 
Quicktime, a standard in sound and video; Integrated Television, in the 
Macintosh TV; and numerous other breakthroughs.
