Windows XP Control Panel

Sounds & Audio Devices Properties

Before I begin please realize that some of these options and settings will vary with each computer and sound card.

Volume Tab: The Device Volume slider determines the volume your soundcard will output. Because I like to listen to my music pretty loud and have a decent sound card I keep the slider in the high range. Your settings may vary depending on your hardware and preferences. Clicking the Advanced button will bring up the full volume controls for recording, CD, playback, etc.

The Speaker Settings - Speaker Volume allows for adjustment of the Right and Left speakers. The Advanced button provides options for various speaker arrangements (Monitor speakers, surround sound, headphones, laptop speakers, etc.) The Performance tab of the Advanced settings determines whether the hardware will use acceleration and sound quality.
