Right Clicking on any
empty space on your desktop and selecting Properties from the
sub menu will bring up the Display Properties
screen. On this page we will go over the Screen Saver Tab.
Click
on the Screen Saver Tab to bring that screen to the front and it
should
look something like the graphic below.
Screen Saver Tab: This
is where you can select a screen saver or select to have
none. Choose a screen saver from the drop down list
and you should see the picture on the little screen change.
In the graphic above I have underwater selected. Once
you have
selected a screensaver you can use the settings
button to
change different aspects of how the screensaver
will look and
act.
As shown in the graphic below which
shows the settings for
the
3D
Flowerbox. You may have different options depending
on
which
screensaver you have selected.
Once you have selected a screensaver and selected the
settings you like, you can
click on the preview button to the
right (refer to top graphic) and windows will take you
briefly to
your desktop, showing what it would look like with the
screen
saver you have selected active. Referring again
to the top
graphic, you can change the number in the box where it
says
wait _ minutes to reflect how long you want the screensaver
to
wait before kicking in. Don't set too low of a
number or you will
find
that your screensaver is kicking in when you have just
paused
a moment to read something, which can be really
annoying. <g>
If you have a monitor that is
energy star compliant, (most newer monitors have these
features) you can use the settings box next
to where it says energy savings features of monitor,
to set the interval after which the monitor goes to lower
power standby or shuts off. Once again be careful not
to set too low of a time or
will find your monitor going blank way too often.
Windows relies
on movement from your mouse to tell it how long you have
been
idle so you may be reading a long document and find your
screen going black on you in the middle. Of course if this
does happen,
just move your mouse to restore your monitor
back to normal.
