The Windows Control Panel
is where you will be able to troubleshoot, view
different hardware and general system properties and make
changes to
various settings, There are many different sections to
the control panel as
you can see from the graphic below. In the coming weeks we
will go over
a some the various things found here.
Sounds:
This week we are
going to go over Sounds. This is where
you can change the sounds your computer makes for various
events. An example would be your windows start up and
shut down sounds. If you are tired of hearing the same
old default windows sounds you can easily change this to be
any wav you have on your system. You can access the
sounds by going to my computer -> Control Panel ->
Sounds. Once you are in your control panel, double
click on the sounds Icon and a box will pop up.
Before we start playing with the sounds, I do want to
caution you about selecting a sound for every event.
While it's possible to do this, and certainly won't cause
your computer any harm... you will
find that it not only will slow your computer down, it will
drive you nuts. <g> With that in mind be
careful to choose sounds for only the events you feel are
necessary. Another thing to be aware of
is that you want to choose sounds that are short and to the
point. Choosing long sounds for basic events, will slow you
down considerably. If you are determined to use longer
sounds, use them for only your windows startup and
shutdown. On the next
page we will go over the sounds dialog box and how to
select, deselect and change your various event sounds.
